In Touch Daily Devotional
by Dr. Charles Stanley
April 17, 2008 - Comfort in Jesus - Hebrews 4:13-15 Welcome to the In Touch Devotional.
When we face trials, comments like "It'll all work out" don't often comfort us. We'd rather have a person put his arm around our shoulder and say, "I've been where you are. I'm familiar with the pain you're feeling."
People often disappoint us with quick-fix responses to our hurt. Fortunately, as God's children, we can find understanding and help in our Savior.
Jesus is the High Priest. In Old Testament days, the high priest would present the blood from a sacrificial animal before God. This offering would make atonement for the people's sin. Jesus' blood is the sacrifice for our sin. It gives us access to the Father.
Jesus is our Intercessor. The book of Romans says, "Christ Jesus, who died... who was raised to life, is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us". We are not perfect, but what a comfort to know the One who is perfect speaks to the Father on our behalf.
Jesus is our Friend. John chapter 15:13 says "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends" Jesus is the best friend we can have. Christ is without sin. But, He understands the range of emotions we feel and the temptations we encounter. Remember Isaiah 53:3. He experienced rejection, temptation, and pain. We find comfort in His understanding.
On whom do you lean during difficult times? Our Lord Jesus Christ offers you compassion and help.
