God's Lobby

Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat.
Isaiah 55:1

"The very rich are different from you and me," wrote F. Scott Fitzgerald. Most of us feel a little uncomfortable in a very exclusive setting. Try walking through the lobby of a snobbishly exclusive hotel, for example, or into an exclusive store catering only to the very rich. The word "exclusive" means that certain people are "excluded"—people, for example, who aren't multimillionaires.

The Gospel is not exclusive but inclusive. God's lobby is filled with those from every economic stratum. Every race, every tribe, every tongue, every background is welcome in His house. Everyone who thirsts can come to the water of life and drink. Whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Peter declared, "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him" (Acts 10:34-35).

All are welcomed into the lobby of God's grace—and if He welcomes them, can we do less?

I am not ashamed to come out this day into the highways and hedges, and to confess that my business is to call the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind, self-condemned, helpless sinners, to the marriage-feast of the supper of the Lamb.
George Whitefield
