The Lord's Prayer
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
1 Peter 3:15 NIV
One day a lawyer told a fellow attorney that he had become a Sunday school teacher at his church. "I bet you don't even know the Lord's Prayer!" his friend replied. "Why, everybody knows that," said the lawyer. "It goes, ‘Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.'" Astonished, his friend said, "Wow, you win. I didn't know you knew so much about the Bible!"
In all seriousness, proclaiming the truth of God's Word should not be taken lightly. James makes this clear when he writes, "Let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive stricter judgment" (James 3:1). Even if you are not called to teach the Word of God, every day there is a possibility for you to proclaim the Truth, and that opportunity should be held to just as high a standard. The Bible tells us to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God . . . rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV). The Word of God—you've got to get to know it if you want to get it right!
It is far better to begin with God—to see His face first, to get my soul near Him before it is near another.
