March 30, 2008 "God, I Believe!" By Robert H. Schuller "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." - Matthew 17:20 As a young boy I often walked the pastures of Iowa, looking for a favored old tree stump. Planting my feet firmly on the weathered wooden platform, I would stretch my arms to the blue sky and begin to preach. My words rang out in empty country hills, where cows placidly grazed. Occasionally, I would have to adjust the strap on my tattered overalls, knowing someday I would trade in the overalls for a clerical robe, a wooden stump for a polished pulpit, an empty field for a glorious church. I was going to be a minister. I knew it! I believed it with all my heart! That childhood dream grew into a prayer. I believed that I could be a minister. Even though I was a poor country boy, I would find a way to get the education I needed to become a minister of God. I didn't know how I would get to college or how I would pay for it, but I knew that God would show me the way. So I prayed every night, "Please help me to be a minister when I grow up." Several years later I stood waiting on the bare platform at the local train station. I was wearing my best pants and shirt. My trunk sat by my feet. I felt the rumble of the train as it approached the station. With a hiss and a squeal, the train strained and groaned to a grinding halt. This was it! It was my turn. I was on my way to college. Seven years after that, I stood waiting at the back of the Ivanhoe Reformed Church in Ivanhoe, Illinois. The year was 1950. It was the day of my ordination. I had made it! Today I was being officially commissioned to do God's work. This was my dream come true. I had prayed for this day. I had believed in it – and here it was! Positive prayer starts with two life-changing words - I BELIEVE. * * * O God, You've said that even a little bit of faith can make BIG things happen.
