He chose to give us birth through the word of truth...James 1:18
Everyone has a physical birthday. We all have that day when we came into the world as a kicking and screaming infant.
When the author of this verse says that he (God) chose to give us birth through the word of truth, he isn't referring to our physical birthday. He's referring to the time that we accept Christ's truth into our hearts and have a spiritual birthday. It's when we become "born again."
But that birth isn't because of any good deed we do or act we perform. God is the one who brings about the miracle of our re-birth when we choose to accept Jesus into our hearts. It is God who shows us the truth of Christ and gives us the opportunity to accept it.
Once we accept that truth, once we are re-born, we are adopted into the family of God. And we can then experience all that the Father has in store for us as his children. And it is then that we can tap into the power that can help us overcome anything we face.
A Prayer for Today
Dear Lord, Thank you so much for providing a way for me to have a spiritual birthday. I know that it is only through accepting your son Jesus into my heart that I can be re-born and become a part of your family. Help me to realize that and to live that out every day. It is through Jesus that I pray all of this, Amen.
