I'm Listening, Lord.

By Robert H. Schuller

" . . . and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice." - 1 Kings 19:12 (NKJV)

God wants to talk to you. Are you listening to what He has to say? Close the door. Wait for Him to speak to you. Become a feather in the wind, a leaf on the wave, a cloud in front of the breeze. God is the wind. He is the wave. He is the breeze. All you need to do is relax. Let Him do the work. He will carry you like a gentle breeze. He will guide you like a strong current. He will give you new thoughts, new insights that are the breakthroughs you need. Respectfully, reflectively stand before Him like a lump of clay. Recognize that He is the master potter. Tell Him you are willing to let Him do the molding. Your job is to stay put on the potter's wheel. With His good and gentle hands He can mold your life into something useful, something beautiful. God wants to talk to us. He has things to say that we need to hear. But we get so preoccupied with our list of things to do. We let our distractions blind us to His presence. We let the din of our busy work-a-day life drowned out His voice. Sometimes it takes a tragedy or a disaster to get our attention. Sometimes it takes a disappointment or injustice to pull us out of our dizzy, spell-binding schedule to turn our eyes up to Him and to open our hearts to what He longs to tell us. God's voice is a still, small voice. It will come as a positive idea "out of the blue" . . . or a positive "feel-good feeling" . . . or an unexpected visit from someone. It may come in the form of an idea or in a letter from someone who cares. God's voice can be heard through a phone call from an old friend or family member, " . . . I was thinking about you today." You can hear God's voice when you read the Bible. Sometimes He even speaks through pastors or inspirational books. You can hear God. He will talk to you. He has talked to you. Chances are you just didn't recognize His voice. So open your eyes and you will see God at work in your life. Open your ears and you will hear Him speak. Are you listening?
God whispers to us in our pleasures . . . but shouts to us in our pain. - C.S. Lewis

Lord Jesus, forgive me for letting busyness and distractions keep me from hearing Your voice. I come ready to listen and follow You wherever You lead today.
