Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.James 1:15
Temptation is deceptively disguised. Just like the bait a fisherman uses for a fish, temptation looks good—at first.
But when we're enticed, we don't think about the sting of the hook. We just take the bait. The problem is that we don't see where that temptation is leading us. But in this verse, we see where it leads.
Sin always has consequences. If you are in the middle of sin right now and aren't seeing those consequences, you may think, "Nothing's going to happen." But sin always has consequences.
God wants you to avoid those consequences. And it starts by our willingness to look to him and turn away from the temptation.
A Prayer for Today
Dear God, When I face times of temptation it is easy to ignore the consequences at first. Help me to see past the temptation and to the outcomes. And help me rely on your strength and direction to turn away. In Jesus' name, Amen.
