Following Up Your Faith

Daily E-votional from Ed Young Ministries
May 19, 2008 Web Version
You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
James 2:20-24

Abraham was known as a man of faith. No one who knew him questioned his faith in God. But faith untested has yet to be proven. So in Genesis 22, God tested Abraham's faith with the ultimate test. And when Abraham passed with flying colors, God took him to a new level of living.

Abraham understood a powerful principle. There is a direct correlation between faith and obedience. He trusted God and showed it by a posture of complete obedience.

The Bible tells us that faith without action is dead. In other words, if you have faith, you will follow it through with action. And if you have faith in God, you will follow that faith through with obedience to him.

If you have made the decision to trust Jesus Christ with your eternity; if you've put your faith in him, are you following it up with your actions? Are you obeying each command that Christ has given you? Because only by following up your faith with action will you truly discover all that God has in store for your life.

A Prayer for Today

Dear God, I have placed my faith in you. But I know that without action, it's really not faith at all. So each day, as I face tests of faith, help me to obey your commands and show others that my trust in you is real. In Christ's name I pray, Amen.
