Living it Out

Daily E-votional from Ed Young Ministries
May 16, 2008 Web Version
My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.
James 2:1

It's one thing to say that favoritism is wrong. Living it out is another thing entirely.

First, we must allow Scripture to be our standard. In every situation and circumstance, we must allow God's Word to determine our how we behave. Rather than going through life allowing our feelings to determine our actions and reactions, we should learn to treat people the way the Bible says to treat them.

And if Scripture is going to be the standard, love has to be the law. The essence of Christianity is love. In fact, it was because of love that God sent Jesus Christ to die for us. And because of that, we should rush to love others.

But the love described here isn't a fleeting feeling or evaporating emotion; it's a constant commitment to treat others the way God treats each of us. Because as we learn to treat people with kindness, respect, mercy and grace, we will discover a freedom that can only be found through Christ.

A Prayer for Today

Dear Lord, As I go through each day, help me to base all that I do on your Word. Direct me to your commands and show me your principles in every situation. Thank you for your patience and mercy as I continue to understand what it means to follow your Son, Jesus Christ. It is in his precious name that I pray, Amen.
