Genesis 2:24 Recommended Reading 1 Peter 3:1-7 Clichés usually contain a kernel of truth. And so it is with this one: There is no "I" in "team." There are individuals on every team but (theoretically) no egos—no "me, my, mine." Someone has said that T-E-A-M stands for "Together Each Achieves More," and that could surely be said of the two-person team called marriage. God gave Adam a wife because he was inadequate alone—inadequate, obviously, for the task of multiplying and filling the earth but inadequate in other ways as well. Adam needed a partner, a helper, a collaborator, a counselor, a corrector, and a co-laborer. And that is what he got in Eve who, not coincidentally, needed all the same things. They were a perfect couple that had it all together and had it all—together. Regarding marriage today, someone has said, "We may not have it all together, but together we have it all." Marriage isn't about perfection, it's about unity—blending strengths and forgiving weaknesses to become together what neither could be alone. Don't be discouraged if your marriage doesn't have it all together. Rejoice that, in Christ, you have it all—together.   As God by creation made two of one, so again by marriage He made one of two.
