Air Hoses

"Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the Lord of Hosts.
Zechariah 4:6

Some say the basic principle of diving is, "DON'T STAND ON YOUR OWN AIR HOSE!"

Sadly, many of us are standing on our own spiritual air hoses because we don't claim the power available to us through the Holy Spirit. Though we try to obey and live for God, we simply cannot do it in our own strength. Just as a diver needs a constant flow of air, Christians need a constant supply of strength from the Helper God has provided.

When Jesus said to His disciples, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit . . . will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you," He might as well have been saying it to us, for we also have access to this Helper (John 14:26).

Jesus left us the Holy Spirit so that we may be able to obey Him and carry out His will; without such help, we would most assuredly fail. So, the next time you find yourself struggling to find direction or strength, call on the Holy Spirit and breathe in the life-giving support He offers.

Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.
