Till Journey's End
I have finished the race . . . . There is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
After evangelist Grady Wilson suffered two heart attacks, he knew he had to alter his schedule, but he decided to slow down without letting up. He'd survived his illnesses, he said, for one reason only—"The Heavenly Father still had a work for me to do."
In his autobiography, Count It All Joy, Grady wrote, "I'm more urgent in personal evangelism, winning people to Christ;" and his earnest desire was to preach the "Gospel until Jesus returns in His Second Coming." Grady's in heaven now, but he maintained an example of good humor, godly living, earnest evangelism, and faithful service to the very end.
Runners know that the last steps of the race are vitally important, and many a contest has been lost by athletes who falter at the end. Aim to finish the race of life at full speed, not at a leisurely pace. There's no "early retirement" from Christian service. He still has work for us to do—till journey's end.
Few, they tell me, finish well. Lord, let me get home before dark.
