...but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.James 1:14
Most of us don't like to take the blame for our sin. We want to put it off by blaming someone else for the position we're in. Or we'll make up excuses like, "The temptation was just too much for me." But God doesn't leave us the option of playing the blame game or making excuses.
Our sins and evil desires come right out of our own sin nature. Yesterday we learned that Satan is the one who is tethered to temptation. But he also customizes temptation to our vulnerabilities and weaknesses. And we are the ones who make the choice to give into those weaknesses.
But God provides a way out. We have no one to blame, no excuses to make. To overcome temptation, we simply have to begin by looking to God and the path he has provided.
A Prayer for Today
Dear God, I know there will be times when I am tempted. In those times, I know I can't blame anyone else or make excuses. But I can turn to you to help me overcome the temptation. Help me to do that in every situation I face. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
