It's a Gift!

He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself . . .
1 John 5:10a

Recommended Reading
John 4:3-15

While recovering from an illness and denying all visitors, noted nineteenth-century United States clergyman and author, Philips Brooks, received one visitor: the agnostic Robert G. Ingersoll. Ingersoll was very appreciative but did not understand why Brooks did not deny him as he had denied his friends. Brooks responded by saying, "It is this way. I feel confident of seeing my friends in the next world, but this may be my last chance of seeing you." *

The Bible says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Philips Brooks certainly understood that passage of Scripture; he was shining from what could have been his death bed! He also understood that any circumstance, good or bad, is an opportunity to share Christ and the gift of eternal life with others.

Fellow Christians, our salvation is a gift to be shared, not just something that we "believe in" and never speak of. What we have as children of God can literally save lives! So wherever you are, remember that in word or deed, any time is a good time to "let your light so shine."

Make sure that when you leave a person, he is closer to Jesus than when you first met him.
