Planning Ahead
But Daniel . . . requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel 1:8
The Judge Harry Pregerson Memorial Interchange is the largest and tallest freeway interchange in southern California. It is where the famously busy Century Freeway (I-105) and the Harbor Freeway (I-110) meet. It is five levels tall, with a three-level train and bus depot weaving through the maze. Suffice it to say, drivers on the 105 and the 110 start planning their moves miles before arriving at this interchange.
Navigating the roads of life is not unlike driving on today's modern freeway systems. You have to know where you're going and how you're going to get there before arriving at the crossroads. That's one thing that made a young man named Daniel so successful. When he was taken captive to Babylon and was asked to participate in a lifestyle that would offend God, he didn't have to think about his decision. The decision to live a life pleasing to God had been made "miles" before he got to that interchange.
Are you planning ahead? Do you know what exit ramp to take to maintain your purity and integrity before God? Continual meditation on God's roadmap, the Bible, is the only way to be ready for the crossroads to come.
It does not take great men to do great things; it only takes consecrated men.
